Seaweave is a BioID+ company applying machine vision to identify individuals and derive high value biological insights. In addition to bioidentification, our approach can support practical parameters such as count, size, sex and selected morphology in marine species.
BioID+ is Seaweave’s approach to turning visual identity into practical biological intelligence. The core task is identifying the individual where stable visual markers allow it, with additional insight drawn from parameters such as count, size, sex and selected morphology.
Many marine operations collect imagery, but far fewer extract repeatable individual level insight from it. Seaweave is focused on closing that gap by applying machine vision in ways that can support research, aquaculture and fisheries outcomes.
Our current BioID+ work shows strong potential in crustacea, where repeated observation of individuals may unlock new ways to track identity and associated biological parameters over time. We are building capability in this area with a view to broader application across suitable marine species.
The same BioID+ logic may extend beyond crustacea where individuals exhibit sufficiently stable visual features, markings, patterning or form. Preliminary work in New Zealand has also indicated BioID potential in snapper, a sparid species in the sea bream family.
Seaweave works alongside Bioeconomy Science Institute NZ to connect advanced biological understanding with practical machine vision deployment. This relationship strengthens our ability to build BioID+ applications grounded in real species biology and field use.
